Ministry of Health marks this week as ‘Health Week’

Ministry of Health marks this week as ‘Health Week’ This week, the Ministry of Health and Family and Welfare is celebrating a ‘Health Week’, to mark the World Health Day falling on 7th April 2016. Several initiatives including those on TB, Diabetes and other communicable and non-communicable diseases and an awareness campaign on family planning will be launched this week. A national consultation on setting up of National eHealth Authority (NeHA) to strengthen the health systems will also be organized. The third phase of the Mission Indradhanush would be implemented on April 7 in 216 select districts in 27 states/UTs, where full immunization coverage is less than 60% and dropout rates are high. Four intensified immunization rounds will be conducted for seven days in each between April and July 2016, in these districts. Mission Indradhanush was launched by the Ministry of Health in 2014 on 25th December with an aim to vaccinate all children under the age of two years as well as pregnant women with seven vaccine preventable diseases. The program has been expanded to also include vitamin A, ORS packets and zinc tablets. Flagging off the third phase of Mission Indradhanush, Union Health Minister said, “Two phases of the special drive have been completed, under which more than 1.48crore children and 38 lakh pregnant women have been additionally immunized. Mission Indradhanush has witnessed unparalleled participation and cooperation from health workers at the grassroot level in improving the immunization coverage in difficult areas.
